Definition: noun 1. an artistic work in a style that imitates that of another work, artist, or period 2. a confused mixture or jumble. verb 1. imitate the style of an artist or work

Usage: We considered making Fork and Salt Shaker a pastiche of some great blog out there. Then we realized that the last thing we wanted to be was another freakin’ blog!!!

Anathema

Definition: noun 1. something or someone that one vehemently hates or dislikes. 2. a strong curse. 3. a formal curse by a pope or a council of the Church, excommunicating a person or denouncing a doctrine.

Usage: 1. Fraudulent clicking of advertisements is anathema to Google. 2. Mike muttered anathemas when he learned that Google killed his dog.

Quixotic

Usage: Website owners often have the quixotic notion that little text ads will actually pay the bills. We count ourselves among them.

Torpor

Usage: When Steve was taken from me, I experienced a palpable sense of loss.

Sesquipedalian

Definition: Noun. 1. A long word. Adjective. 1. Given to the use of long words. 2. Long and ponderous; polysyllabic.

Usage: Some people may describe Fork and Salt Shaker as sesquipedalian. If you count yourself among them, you’re an idiot then the “Word of the Day” should be your favorite part of the site. Vocabulary is good for you.

Usage: Some people feel technology will continue to make our lives easier. Others feel our hubris towards technological advancement will be our downfall. Except for Fork and Salt Shaker of course…

Usage: The President’s removal of Karl Rove from the White House would be tantamount to self-evisceration.
